Licensing FAQ

Evaluating

Q: What are the evaluation license limitations?

A: Evaluation license usage is limited to non-production environments only. You can use it for 60 days. After this trial period expires, you need to make a purchase decision or stop evaluating.

Q: Can I develop using an evaluation Graphics Mill license?

A: This is only possible if only one developer uses the SDK in the project. Before your product goes to production/release, you must buy an appropriate Standard/Pro SDK license. Server applications will as well need the appropriate number of Server Deployment licenses.

Desktop Applications

Q: I am developing a desktop application. Which licenses do I need to buy?

A: When you are developing a desktop solution, you need an SDK license for each developer who uses Graphics Mill SDK in the project. Purely desktop solutions should not be confused with kiosk/point of sale/digital signage solutions.

Q: I am planning to sell a desktop application that includes Graphics Mill components. What licenses do I need? What about royalty fee?

A: When developing, you need an SDK license for each developer who uses the SDK. When you include Graphics Mill components into your application and sell it to customers, you don’t pay any royalty fees.

Web Applications

Q: What is a web application?

A: Web application is an application that is hosted on a web server and is made publicly accessible via Web.

Q: I am developing a web application. Which licenses do I need to buy?

A: You will need the appropriate number of SDK licenses – one per each developer who uses the SDK – but that’s not all. You will need Server Deployment licenses – as many licenses as many servers will host Graphics Mill server-side. Also, if a server has more than 2 CPUs, additional Server Deployment licenses need to be bought for each CPU over 2.

Q: I am developing a client-server application for in-house use. Graphics Mill is only used client-side. Which licenses do I need?

A: You will need the appropriate number of SDK licenses – one per each developer who uses the SDK. No licenses are required for the servers and no royalty fee is required as well.

Q: I am developing a client-server application for in-house use. Graphics Mill is used both client-side and server-side. Which licenses do I need?

A: You will need the appropriate number of SDK licenses – one per each developer who uses the SDK – but that’s not all. You will need Server Deployment licenses – as many licenses as many servers will host Graphics Mill server-side. Also, if a server has more than 2 CPUs, additional Server Deployment licenses need to be bought for each CPU over 2.

Miscellaneous

Q: I will deploy Graphics Mill on a multi-CPU server. How many additional licenses do I need?

A: If a server has more than 2 CPUs, additional Server Deployment licenses need to be bought for each CPU over 2. So, if you have a 4 CPU server, you will need 1+2=3 Server Deployment licenses for it (1 license for the server, and 2 licenses for the 2 additional CPUs).

Q: I have a server that has multi-core CPUs. Which licenses do I need?

A: No licenses are required for additional cores in a CPU. Additional licenses are only bought for individual CPUs, if a server has more than 2 CPUs.
