# Basic Steps in Troubleshooting of ActiveX/Java Uploader

This topic is a guide which aims at helping you to understand what is wrong with your application. Here we consider the most popular errors:

- ActiveX/Java Uploader Does not Render
- Message "ActiveX/Java Uploader Encountered Some Problem" Appears
- Upload is Complete but Files are not Uploaded
- Redirect Message Appears

If an error occurs, we recommend you to start with the debug console which allows you to get error, debug, and information messages from ActiveX/Java Uploader right in your browser. To turn the debug console on you should:

1. Set the DebugScriptLevel[DebugScriptLevel (ASP.NET)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_Aurigma_ImageUploader_BaseControl_DebugScriptLevel.htm.md)[DebugScriptLevel (PHP)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_P_BaseControl_DebugScriptLevel.htm.md) (or [debug.level](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_J_$au_debug_level.htm.md)) to `3`.
2. Specify how debug messages should be displayed (in pop-up window, console, or alert) with the DebugScriptMode[DebugScriptMode (ASP.NET)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_Aurigma_ImageUploader_BaseControl_DebugScriptMode.htm.md)[DebugScriptMode (PHP)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_P_BaseControl_DebugScriptMode.htm.md) (or [debug.mode](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_J_$au_debug_mode.htm.md)) property.
3. Allow pop-up windows or open browser error console. Here are the ways to open the console in the most popular browsers:

    - In Internet Explorer 8 open **Tools -&gt; Developer Tools** (or press F12), then select **Script** tab in the left pane and click **Console** in the right pane.
    - In Mozilla Firefox we recommend to use [Firebug](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1843/).
    - In Google Chrome click the **Wrench** icon and select **Tools -&gt; JavaScript Console** (or press Ctrl+Shift+J).
    - In Safari turn on the **Develop** menu in the **Advanced** pane of **Safari Preferences**, after that go to **Develop -&gt; Show Error Console** (or press Cmd+Alt+C).
4. Reload your application.

The following code inserted in your application will print all debug messages from ActiveX/Java Uploader to pop-up window (or to the console if pop-ups are blocked).
```aspx-cs
<aur:Uploader ID="Uploader1" runat="server"DebugScriptLevel="3" DebugScriptMode="Default" >
</aur:Uploader>
``````
<?phprequire_once "ImageUploaderPHP/Uploader.class.php";$uploader = new Uploader('Uploader1');$uploader->setDebugScriptLevel(3);$uploader->setDebugScriptMode("['popup','console']");$uploader->render();
?>
```
If you prefer JavaScript, remember that the following code should be inserted before rendering ActiveX/Java Uploader:
```
<script type="text/javascript">
    $au.debug().level(3);
    $au.debug().mode(['popup','console']);
</script>
```
For more information about the debug console, please, see the [Using JavaScript API](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/using-javascript-api.htm.md) topic.
## ActiveX/Java Uploader Does not Render
Firstly, make sure that ActiveX/Java Uploader is installed on the client side; for more information on how to install the client parts of ActiveX/Java Uploader, see the [Installing ActiveX/Java Uploader on Client Side](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/installing-image-uploader-on-client-side.htm.md) topic.
Another possible reason is an error in your script which embeds ActiveX/Java Uploader. Please, use the debug console as it is described at the beginning of this topic to find the error.
## Message "ActiveX/Java Uploader Encountered Some Problem" Appears
It means that an internal server error has occurred. Far more likely that:
- ActiveX/Java Uploader cannot save uploaded files because of wrong permissions configuration. See the [Installation and Deployment Notes](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/installation-and-deployment-notes.htm.md) topic to learn how to set required permissions.
- The request size is too big. See the [Configuring ActiveX/Java Uploader ASP.NET](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/configuring-aspnet-iu.htm.md) or [Configuring ActiveX/Java Uploader PHP](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/configuring-php-iu.htm.md) topics, or refer to your server documentation to learn how to increase maximum request length.
- There is an error in your upload script (specified with the UploadSettings.ActionUrl[ActionUrl (ASP.NET)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_Aurigma_ImageUploader_UploadSettings_ActionUrl.htm.md)[ActionUrl (PHP)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_P_UploadSettings_ActionUrl.htm.md)[actionUrl (JavaScript)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_J_$au_uploadSettings_actionUrl.htm.md) property); see the Debugging Upload Scripts [Debugging ASP.NET Upload Scripts](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-aspnet-upload-scripts-iu.htm.md) [Debugging PHP Upload Scripts](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-php-upload-scripts-iu.htm.md) [Debugging Upload Scripts in Other Platforms](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-upload-scripts-in-other-platforms-iu.htm.md)  topic.
## Upload is Complete but Files are not Uploaded
This can indicate one of the following:
- You did not specify any Converter[Converter (ASP.NET)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_T_Aurigma_ImageUploader_Converter.htm.md)[Converter (PHP)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_T_P_Converter.htm.md)[converter (JavaScript)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_T_J_$au_converter.htm.md). If so, specify at least one.
- You do not actually save uploaded files. In this case, either implement the upload processing script or use the autosave feature. For more information, please, see the Saving Uploaded Files [Saving Uploaded Files in ASP.NET](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/saving-uploaded-files-in-aspnet-iu.htm.md) [Saving Uploaded Files in PHP](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/saving-uploaded-files-in-php-iu.htm.md)  topic.
- You use the autosave feature, but did not specify [DestinationFolder](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_Aurigma_ImageUploader_BaseUploadControl_DestinationFolder.htm.md).
- You are trying to find files in a folder different from the one specified in your upload script.
- You use PHP platform and experience a server-side error (HTTP code 500); see the [Debugging PHP ActiveX/Java Upload Scripts](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-php-upload-scripts-iu.htm.md) topic.
## Redirect Message Appears
There are three possible reasons of getting "The server attempted to redirect you to http://someserver.com, but server redirects are not supported." message:
- Your upload script tries to redirect users to another page, but ActiveX/Java Uploader does not support redirection in an upload script. To implement redirection use the RedirectUrl[RedirectUrl (ASP.NET)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_Aurigma_ImageUploader_UploadSettings_RedirectUrl.htm.md)[RedirectUrl (PHP)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_P_UploadSettings_RedirectUrl.htm.md)[redirectUrl (JavaScript)](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/JA_P_J_$au_uploadSettings_redirectUrl.htm.md) property.
- You upload in non-Internet Explorer browser and lost session or authorization cookies, so the sever tries to redirect you to the login page. Please, see the Maintaining Sessions and Authentication [Maintaining Sessions and Authentication in ASP.NET](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/maintaining-sessions-and-authentication-in-aspnet-iu.htm.md) [Maintaining Sessions and Authentication in PHP](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/maintaining-sessions-and-authentication-in-php-iu.htm.md)  topic.
- A server error has occurred and the server tried to redirect users to a custom error page, please, see the Debugging Upload Scripts [Debugging ASP.NET Upload Scripts](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-aspnet-upload-scripts-iu.htm.md) [Debugging PHP Upload Scripts](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-php-upload-scripts-iu.htm.md) [Debugging Upload Scripts in Other Platforms](https://www.aurigma.com/docs/us8/debugging-upload-scripts-in-other-platforms-iu.htm.md)  topic.
